What's not to like...

It's all true...I did drag Gill up Kilimanjaro to celebrate my big 5-0:

Really looking forward to marking Gill's own milestone with her on the classic Coast to Coast walk.

Good friends & family, glorious scenery & heritage, hearty cooked breakfasts & artery-clogging cream teas, real ale from traditional pubs, and a relaxed 200 mile stroll...what's not to like!

We know some of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales already, so looking forward to saying hello again to those old friends, in a different context. And really excited about walking across the North Yorkshire Moors for the first time...all the way to Robin Hood's Bay on the eastern coast of our great country.

Thanks for inviting me, Gill...let's do it.

How it all began

5 years ago my husband, Andrew, persuaded me to climb Kilimanjaro with him to commemorate his big 5-0.  Now, having just reached that huge milestone myself, I've decided it's time for revenge!  Next month we are going to walk in Alfred Wainwright's footsteps and follow his coast to coast route from St Bee's on the west coast to Robin Hood's Bay on the east coast.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coast_to_Coast_Walk) It may not seem an equivalent challenge, but I suspect that 200 miles over 12 days, through 3 national parks and lord knows how many tea shops will prove to be equally as tough and rewarding.  We will be joined by our good friends Simon, for the whole walk, and his wife Fiona for the first half.  Others have threatened to join in for a weekend in the middle when we will be walking through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.  Carol, Steve, Jan and Ian - we look forward to sharing a bit of our adventure with you! And Ali too - sorry, didn't mean to forget you!
We will endeavour to update this blog with stories and pictures as we go along, as and when we have the technology!  We hope you enjoy our journey too!
