Day 8 - Reeth to Richmond

Well the weather forecast for today was sunny and 16 degrees... In reality it was cloudy with the constant threat of rain, and certainly not the balmy temperature that was suggested.  However it did stay dry for our walk to Richmond.
Today we were 5 - Gill, Andy, Simon, Carol and Steve. Our journey down through the remainder of Swaledale to 'The gateway to the Dales' was very pretty, albeit it in a slightly soggy-under-foot-not-great-visibility way.  We decided to take the low route which still stayed above the river and the flooded fields but avoided the windy tops.  Passing through some quaint villages, and stopping en-route in a beautiful lodge house for coffee, we picnicked on a grassy hillside above the rivver before arriving in Richmond at about 3pm.
We checked into our b&b and were joined shortly by Andy's cousin Liz, who is joining us for the rest day tomorrow.  Our hostess, Jill, produced newly baked scones and tea for the 6 of us which were gratefully received!
Distance 11.4 miles
Time elapsed 5.25 hours
Calories 980
Thought for the day - 'A walk of a thousand miles starts with but a single step'.  Thanks Ralph!
